EAT – Save the Planet – Give up Meat

The climate change guru Lord Stern of Brentford called recently for Times Newspaper readers to turn vegetarian to slow global warming! The good citizens of the Belgian City of Ghent do not think the action has to be that extreme.

They have stopped eating meat for one day a week now for over a year, without noticeable ill effects.

Statistics show that the British eat 50% more meat than they did 40 years ago. As it takes roughly 10kg of vegetable matter or cereals to produce 1kg of meat, means the resources to feed one person a meat meal could be used to feed five times as many people or more.
