Here is what the dating lingo really means so you can get savvy now.
Breadcrumbing is receiving occasional texts giving the impression they are still interested in you before they drop off the radar again. Breadcrumbing tends to be what time-wasters do.
Bae, Baby and other pet names can seem perfectly natural when they evolve from being in a relationship with someone. Being prematurely called by pet names can feel as though they are trying to rush or manufacture intimacy.
Cushioning is when you’re interested in someone but they’re also texting other people like a cushion in case anything goes wrong in their relationship with you. It’s also called hedging – like hedging your bets. It’s okay if they’re honest about their behaviour and it can also be a heads up not to take them too seriously either.
Kitten-fishing is when someone paints a rosier picture of themselves than is the reality. It is more than gilding the lily and is lying so definitely not a positive personality trait.
Benching is when you are kept in reserve and never quite make the first term. This sporting analogy is pretty accurate when someone is happy to keep a connection with you but is reluctant to come out to play.
Zombieing is when someone stops contact with you and then messages you out of the blue sometime later like a zombie back from the dead without giving you any explanation.
Haunting is when an ex stays active on your social media so they can remind you they still exist. If it makes you feel uncomfortable it’s fine to mute or block them.
