Leadership and Corporate Work
How emotional safety drives performance, decision-making and influence
I help leaders, teams, and organisations achieve real, lasting improvements in performance and resilience by focusing on nervous system regulation and emotional safety—an approach that goes deeper than conventional methods to produce sustainable shifts in how people relate and work together.
“Leadership is not a problem of skills, intelligence, experience or strategy.”
Most leadership challenges aren’t due to a lack of intelligence, experience, or strategy.
They are caused by pressure on the nervous system.
Persistent stress triggers reactivity, defensiveness, or rigidity. Communication narrows. Decision-making falters. Authority is overused or ignored. This is biology, not personality.
I work with leaders and organisations at the level where real behaviour change happens.
What makes my corporate work different
Traditional leadership training focuses on confidence, communication techniques and behavioural models.
Unlike standard leadership programmes, my work uniquely starts with the nervous system state, which underpins every element of effective leadership. By beginning here—before any standard skill training—we unlock core drivers of performance for a more transformative and sustained impact.
Nervous system safety determines:
- whether people listen or resist
- whether authority is trusted or challenged
- whether teams collaborate or fragment
- whether leaders think clearly under pressure
- whether change is integrated or rejected
If the nervous system isn’t safe enough to adapt, even the best strategies fail.
Who this work is for
I work with:
- Senior leaders and executives
- Leadership teams under sustained pressure
- Organisations navigating change, crisis or growth
- Founders and entrepreneurs leading at pace
- Professional services, healthcare, education and creative industries
This approach is most effective when teams perform well externally but face hidden tensions, burnout, or friction.
What I help organisations resolve
Common presenting issues include:
- Teams that look superficially functional but feel aggrieved
- Leaders who carry responsibility but who mask their isolation
- High-performance executives resorting to over-control or overdrive
- Effective communication is impaired by stress
- Resistance to change that cannot be solved rationally
- Burnout masked as productivity
These patterns don’t change with motivation or accountability alone—they shift when the nervous system state does.
How the work is delivered
I offer corporate and leadership work in different formats, depending on what you need.
- Leadership briefings and workshops are focused sessions that explain how nervous system safety affects leadership, authority, and performance
- Team resilience and performance sessions teach practical ways to reduce reactivity and help teams collaborate under pressure
- Executive consultancy and advisory work: I provide ongoing support for founders and senior leaders as they navigate complex organisational challenges
- Bespoke programmes focus on your organisation’s emotional and operational challenges. This is not therapy
This work stands apart by applying neuroscience and relational psychology in practice to leadership, frequently delivering results where conventional methods fall short.
FAQs: Frequently asked questions
Is this leadership coaching or therapy?
Neither. It’s neither. This is practical, applied work with the nervous system and relationships, designed for leadership settings. It’s grounded and focused on results.
Do you work alongside existing leadership or HR teams?
Yes. This work fits well with existing structures and supports your current leadership programmes.
Is this suitable for sceptical or analytical teams?
Yes. In fact, analytical teams often respond well once they see the biological reasons behind behaviour under pressure.
Do you offer one-off sessions or longer programmes?
Both options are available. Work is tailored to your organisation’s needs.

The Soften Up framework in leadership
Much of my corporate work is grounded in the principles behind Soften Up, a book I’ve co-written with Caroline Eddins.
Soften Up, as a management approach, isn’t about being nicer or less decisive. It’s about understanding how influence really works.
Leaders who master emotional tone and create nervous system safety produce outcomes that other approaches cannot: reducing resistance without force, leading confidently without over-explaining, owning authority without intimidation, and resolving conflict without escalation. This is the core value of my approach.
You can learn more about this framework here.
Why does this approach work in organisations?
People do not respond to logic first. They respond to safety.
When leaders foster safety, culture changes, people become less defensive and more creative together.
My approach is distinctive because it aligns leadership behaviours with how the nervous system functions under pressure, bridging the gap between science and organisational effectiveness.
